Getting to Skúvoy
Skúvoy is a gem south of Sandoy, but with its rather isolated location traveling to Skúvoy is very weather dependent. You can reach Skúvoy with ferry, helicopter or private boat charter. When planning your trip to Skúvoy, please always take into account that there is a possibility that your departure is changed or cancelled due to weather.
By ferry
The public ferry M/F Sildberin has daily departures on route 66 between Sandur and Skúvoy, if weather permits. The traveling time is scheduled to take 35 minutes. Most departures are on request and will only be operated if passengers have booked a seat, no later than two hours prior to departure on booking.ssl.fo. The earliest departures in the morning will only be available, if requested by phone (+298 293117) at latest 9PM the evening before.

By Helicopter
There is an all-year helicopter service to Skúvoy operated by Atlantic Airways - of course depending on the weather. The main purpose is to offer a regular connection for locals to reach the mainland. Prices, timetables and conditions are found on atlantic.fo.
It is not possible to book a round trip with the helicopter, either you will have to combine with sailing one way or book an overnight stay until the next departure. If you combine traveling by helicopter and boat, there is no refund for the helicopter, if your boat connection is cancelled. The helicopter must be cancelled 24 hours prior to departure.
Private boat charter
Private boat charter to Skúvoy can be arranged through Visit Sandoy. One operator is M/S Hvíthamar, who offers sailing to Skúvoy and sightseeing tours in a traditional Faroese boat with the capacity to take 12 passengers. As all other departures is it only available if weather permits.
Skúvoy - a ramsar island
Due to its rich birdlife, with many breeding species, Skúvoy is categorized as a Ramsar island, meaning that special measures are taken to protect the wildlife and nature. One of the reasons for the rich birdlife in Skúvoy is, that neither rats, mice nor cats live on the island. Everyone traveling to Skúvoy, should take precautions and inspect all goods before bringing it to Skúvoy either with the helicopter or by boat.
Sailing restrictions: from 15. April to 31. August boats are not allowed to sail faster than 8 nautical mph in a distance of 500m from land on Skúvoy. Unnecessary noise, such as loud music and sailing with jet skis is also prohibited.
