Skopun - Lírabergshálsur
Walk between hills and lakes to Lírabergsháls where you'll find magnificient views overlooking the cliffs and rock seastacks of the weatherbeaten west coast of Sandoy.
The hike starts at the harbour of Skopun. Walk north along the road passing the store called Búrhandilin. The building has been used as a shop since 1856 making it one of the oldest continues shops in the Faroe Islands.
Following the road Tormandsvegur, you'll pass a memorial commemorating the original settlers of Skopun and higher on the hill is a memorial as well as the world’s largest postbox. With the village behind you you'll see the many lakes and on clear days reflecting the nearby islands of Koltur and Hestur. It is remarkably comfortable to walk along the quite road leading the valley of Høvdarhaga. From here, you'll see Lírabergsháls. After hiking for 2,8 km, you'll find the sheepfold at the end of the road. Here, you'll also see a sign pointing to the viewpoints. Follow the reguar signpostst some 700m. Upon arrival you'll see the south towards the weather beaten westcoast of Sandoy and its impressive sea stacks. The northern sea stack is called Svartskoradrangur (170m) and the southernmost called Orknadalsdrangur (182m).
