HOYMA is concerts in people’s homes: 20 concerts by 10 different artists in the livingrooms of 10 different family homes in Syðrugøta. 2 concerts in each home. There are no sound or lighting systems used.
Open doors, hospitality and the love of music and people coming together is what drives the HOYMA festival. 10 village families open their homes to be venues for this annual event. Featuring leading Faroese artists in the most intimate settings imaginable HOYMA is a unique way to experience Faroese music, culture and society.
HOYMA started in 2013 and has had some of the best Faroese performers on the line up – including Eivør, Marius Ziska, Hamferð, Greta Svabo Bech, Lena Anderssen, Kári Sverrisson, Lyon, Guðrið Hansdóttir and many others.
HOYMA won a Faroese Music Award in 2013 for “event of the year”.
The word HOYMA means home in the local Gøta dialect. The event combines two important and age old elements of Faroese culture. The concept of húsagonga, where you go from house to house to visit each other on special occasions, and utilizing the living room that was central to the preservation and creation of the Faroese language, storytelling and singing traditions for centuries, when the Faroese language and culture was not officially appreciated by the authorities.
