Exclusive excursion to Hellurnar from Fuglafjørður

This year the Culture Days excursion to Hellurnar is different from previous years’.

The excursion begins by bus from the Tourist Information centre in Fuglafjørður at 11.15, taking us to Hellurnar, where we will start at the chapel with service and singing. Then we will visit one of the first houses in the village, recently re-erected using driftwood and old building methods. The owner will tell us about the restoration project, we will get ‘drekkamunn’ (a Faroese word for a meal consisting of tea or coffee and bread or cake), and we will hear more singing.

The old bedrock-track along the fjord between Hellurnar and Oyndarfjørður has recently been restored. We will walk along this historic village track to Oyndarfjørður, where the old fishing boat, Dragin, waits for us. We will then sail to Fuglafjørður onboard Dragin and get soup on the trip.

We expect to be back in Fuglafjørður in good time for Mozart’s Coronation Mass at the church at 7pm, and perhaps we will even make it in time for the jazz concert at the Culture House at 5pm.
