Getting here

Getting to Sandoy is easy – and hey, you get to see both Hestur, Koltur, Vágar, Streymoy and of course Sandoy on this scenic little trip.

The ferry leaves from Gamlarætt, which is a 20 minute drive from Tórshavn. You can also take the bus 101 from the central bus station, or from Steinatún across from VisitTórshavn in the city center.

When you arrive in Gamlarætt, the ferry Teistin will take you to the village Skopun in Sandoy. In Skopun you find the world’s biggest mailbox! How’s that for a start.

If you want to travel to the scenic little bird-paradise of an island, called Skúvoy, you can take the ferry Sildberin from the village Sandur. The ferries Sildberin and Teistin have a connected time-table, which means that island-hopping is no problem!

Good to know:

You can only travel with Sildberin to Skúvoy by request on phone +298 29 31 07, however, the trip at 6.15 and 8.30 am must be booked before 9pm a day in advance.

St. Dímun:

If you want to go to St. Dímun, please ask us for assistance first. We can arrange a boat-trip to the island if the weather allows it. It is also possible to book a helicopter to the island, but please make arrangements with the family first, since you will not be able to leave the island for a few days once you’re there.

Public transportation:

You find all your public transportation information at http://www.ssl.fo/en/
There are timetables for both buses and ferries on the website. The bus from Tórshavn to Gamlarætt is called route 101, the bus from Skopun the rest of Sandoy route 601.
The ferries Teistin and Sildberin are called routes 60 and 66.

We recommend booking a spot for your car through the SSL website, and perhaps considering not to travel by car with the ferry Teistin around 8 in the morning or around 16 in the afternoon, due to consideration for the locals who have to get to and from work, and there is a limited amount of space for cars in the ferry.
